Surprisingly, given I had a bag stolen, is Santiago. Fantastic setting surrounded by the Andes.

Second is Quito it has an old world charm and friendly people. However difficult to walk around because of the hills it is built on. Good start point for Jungle visits or Galapagos visits. Hotel was really good.

Buenos Aires is third. A very different city more cosmopolitan but has lots to see and good transport infrastructure. Interesting history and walking tours a good way to discover the city. 3 nights/2 days is not enough for a visit. Generally friendly. As well as children they definitely love their dogs though(bit of a problem avoiding the poo), especially on pavements which are not well maintained.

Bogotá is fourth. Not much to see in city and has traffic congestion. Also the place where felt least safe although no real problems.

Last is Lima. Overcrowded, horrendous traffic and overrated tourist attractions at Miraflores. There is however the best museums and archeology we have found so far. Cannot see why anyone would want to stay here for more than 1 night.
